Ear Ozone Insufflation is a gentle, non-invasive ozone therapy in which a small, precisely calibrated flow of medical grade ozone gas is delivered via a specialised ear cup or small catheter into the ear canal. The ozone diffuses through the delicate tissues of the ear, producing local antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and tissue-supporting effects. At Proback Clinic in Victoria, Central London we offer Ear Ozone Insufflation as a standalone treatment and as part of a broader ozone therapy protocol. For our full range of ozone therapy options please visit our Ozone Therapy London page.

What Is Ear Ozone Insufflation Used For?

Ear Ozone Insufflation has a number of well documented clinical applications:

  • Chronic or recurrent ear infections โ€” otitis media and otitis externa
  • Tinnitus โ€” ringing or buzzing in the ears โ€” where inflammatory or circulatory factors are contributing
  • Eustachian tube dysfunction
  • Sinusitis โ€” the sinuses are anatomically connected to the ear canal and ozone delivered via the ear can reach the sinus cavities
  • Fungal ear infections and biofilm โ€” ozone’s antimicrobial properties are particularly effective against the fungal organisms commonly found in the ear canal
  • Hearing loss where inflammation or poor circulation is a contributing factor
  • Post viral ear and sinus conditions including those following COVID-19

How Does It Work?

A specialised silicone ear cup is placed gently over the ear canal, creating a sealed environment. A precisely calibrated and very low concentration of medical grade ozone gas is then delivered into this sealed space over a period of several minutes โ€” typically five to ten minutes per ear. The ozone diffuses through the skin of the ear canal and the delicate mucous membranes of the middle ear, exerting its antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and tissue-supporting effects locally.

At these very low concentrations and via this route ozone is completely safe and well tolerated โ€” it does not reach the lungs or systemic circulation in any meaningful quantity.

For conditions involving the sinuses the anatomical connection between the ear canal and the sinus cavities means that ozone delivered via the ear also reaches the sinus passages โ€” making this a useful route for sinusitis and sinus related conditions as well.

What to Expect at Your Session?

Each session is very gentle and takes approximately 10 to 20 minutes. You simply sit or lie comfortably while the ear cup is placed over one or both ears. The ozone is delivered at a very low flow rate and concentration. Most patients find the experience completely comfortable โ€” the most common sensation is a very mild warmth.

There is no discomfort, no pressure and no noise. You can resume all normal activities immediately after your session.

How Many Sessions Will I Need?

For acute conditions such as an active ear infection or acute sinusitis a short course of three to six sessions over one to two weeks typically produces the best results.

For chronic or longstanding conditions such as tinnitus or recurrent infections a longer course of eight to twelve sessions is recommended, often with periodic maintenance thereafter.

Your practitioner will discuss the most appropriate protocol for your specific situation at consultation.
