What Is Prolozone Therapy?
Prolozone therapy is a regenerative injection technique that combines two active components – a natural dextrose solution and medical grade ozone gas (O3) – delivered directly into the affected joint or tissue. The dextrose component triggers a controlled healing response, stimulating new collagen production and tissue repair. The ozone component dramatically improves oxygenation and circulation within the treated area, reduces inflammation at a cellular level and stimulates the body’s own regenerative mechanisms.

Frozen shoulder – adhesive capsulitis – is one of the most frustrating shoulder conditions to treat. It typically progresses through three phases: a freezing phase of increasing pain and stiffness, a frozen phase of persistent stiffness with reduced pain and a thawing phase of gradual recovery. The entire process can take two to three years and conventional treatment – physiotherapy, steroid injections and manipulation under anaesthesia – produces inconsistent results.
Prolozone for shoulder pain injected directly into the glenohumeral joint and the surrounding capsular tissue addresses both the inflammatory and the fibrotic components of frozen shoulder simultaneously. The ozone reduces the capsular inflammation that is maintaining the pain and stiffness while stimulating the breakdown of the fibrotic adhesions that are restricting movement. Prolotherapy to the surrounding ligamentous structures complements this by supporting the structural repair of the capsular tissue as it begins to recover.

Rotator cuff damage – whether partial tears, tendinopathy or calcific deposits – is among the most common shoulder pain presentations we treat. The rotator cuff tendons have a notoriously poor blood supply, particularly at their insertion onto the humeral head, which is why rotator cuff conditions are so slow to heal and why they respond poorly to rest and physiotherapy alone.
Prolozone addresses this directly. The ozone component dramatically improves oxygenation and circulation in the hypovascular rotator cuff tissue – creating the healing environment the tendon cannot generate on its own. The dextrose component stimulates new collagen production within the damaged tendon. Together they provide the regenerative stimulus that the tendon’s poor blood supply prevents it from generating unaided.
