That’s why our clinic inLondon VictoriaprovidesProlozone Therapy– an advanced, non-surgical treatment designed to restore mobility, reduce inflammation, and support long-term recovery.
What is Prolozone?
Prolozone is a safe, and effective injection technique that was originally developed by Dr Frankk Shallenberger MD in America. Dr Shallenberger first experimented in injecting joints and soft tissue more than 25 years ago. Prolozone is considered an excellent form of therapy for conditions such as chronic back pain, chronic neck pain, knee pain, ankle joint pain, degenerative disc disease, shoulder and elbow pain.
Prolozone usually corrects the source of pain in up to 80% of patients becoming permanently pain free.
Multitude studies have shown the positive effects on tissues using ozone. As soon as ozone enters the body, it transforms into oxygen and allows cells to become energized which contributes greatly to tissue healing and as a result removes the cause of stiffness and pain.

- Prolotherapy – effective but typically requires more sessions as it doesn’t include ozone.
- Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) – uses blood platelets but can be more intensive and costly.
- Steroid injections – potentially can provide quick relief but do not support tissue regeneration.
- Physiotherapy alone – helpful for rehabilitation, but may not address long-term degeneration.

FAQs
Most injuries will have a reduction in circulation, therefore restricting the ability of the body to regenerate and heal itself due to the reduction in oxygenation and nutrients to the tissues.
Oxygen is by far the most important element for healing. A reduction of oxygen levels causes an accumulation of lactic acid, and often results in a buildup of scar tissue. Prolozone acts on the tissues on 3 levels: First, an homeopathic form of medication is injected into the injured tissue, as well as nutrients which are required for healing, then oxygen in the form of ozone is injected providing the tissues with what it needs for healing.
Most of the joints, including, back, neck, knees, ankles, shoulders, elbows, wrist, feet (plantar fascia) soft tissue area such as hamstrings, gluts, trigger points.
Most cases will respond between 3 and 6 treatments. Prolozone can also be combined with other treatments like shockwave therapy, and spinal decompression. This varies depending on the patient’s problems, their age and their level of general health.
Prolozone is considered to be a safe and effective form of regenerative treatment for soft tissue (muscles), cartilage and joints. It is considered by many to be a great alternative to surgery.
Most patients will feel a relief of 50% to 80% of their pain. If the injection was made into a joint, the gas can be heard when moving that joint. Some patients will feel the injection sites but usually the relief of pain is much greater than the soreness of the injection site.
After the first treatment, a gap of one week is advised to receive the following treatment, then a gap of 2 weeks is usually recommended for subsequent treatments.
There are both injection techniques, prolozone will use ozone as its main active ingredient but also uses glucose, while prolotherapy will use glucose as its main active ingredient which is meant to create inflammation to strengthen ligaments. Ozone on the other end, has shown to have an anti-inflammatory effect on the tissues
Patients receiving Prolozone Therapy usually feel immediate improvement, with very little to any pain at all during the treatments. Next, prolotherapy requires many injections, whereas Prolozone Therapy only requires a few. This means that Prolozone Therapy is faster and much less expensive. Prolozone therapy is especially effective in regenerating the cartilage in damaged knees and hips. Prolotherapy is usually not able to do this.
