Knee Arthritis
Up to 90% Success Rate
Knee arthritis (osteoarthritis of the knee) is a common degenerative condition in which the protective cartilage within the joint gradually breaks down. This leads to pain, stiffness, swelling, grinding sensations, and reduced mobility, often making everyday activities such as walking, climbing stairs, or standing for long periods difficult. It frequently develops after previous injuries that cause joint instability and abnormal wear over time.
At Proback, we treat knee arthritis with our award-winning regenerative injection therapies. Prolozone therapy and Prolotherapy are the cornerstone treatments. These non-surgical injections reduce inflammation, strengthen supporting ligaments, promote cartilage regeneration, and improve oxygenation and tissue repair within the joint. Where myofascial restrictions or muscle tightness contribute to the pain, we also incorporate Hydro-release (fascial hydrodissection) to gently release adhesions and restore normal movement in the surrounding soft tissues.
The result for most patients is lasting pain relief, greater joint stability, and improved function-without the need for surgery or long-term medication.
Meniscus Tear
A meniscus tear involves damage to the C-shaped cartilage that acts as a shock absorber between the thigh and shin bones in the knee. Tears often occur from sudden twisting movements during sports or everyday activities, or from gradual wear and tear. Symptoms typically include sharp pain, swelling, stiffness, a catching or locking sensation, and a feeling of instability in the knee.
We address meniscus tears using Prolotherapy and Prolozone therapy. These regenerative injections stimulate the body’s natural healing response, helping to repair the damaged meniscus tissue, strengthen surrounding ligaments, and reduce inflammation. If myofascial pain or fascial restrictions are also present (common with knee injuries), we add Hydro-release to release tight fascia and free up movement.
This targeted, non-surgical approach helps restore knee function, reduce pain, and often avoids the need for invasive procedures or lengthy recovery times.
Knee Ligament Injury
Ligament injuries in the knee (such as sprains or tears to the ACL, MCL, LCL, or other supporting ligaments) are common after sports injuries, accidents, or sudden pivots. They cause pain, swelling, instability (a “giving way” feeling), and can lead to further joint damage or early arthritis if left untreated.
Proback specialises in regenerative treatments for ligament injuries. Prolotherapy is particularly effective at strengthening and repairing weakened or lax ligaments by stimulating the body’s own healing cascade. Prolozone therapy complements this by delivering medical-grade ozone to reduce inflammation, improve oxygenation, and accelerate tissue repair. For patients who also experience associated myofascial pain or fascial tightness around the knee, we include Hydro-release techniques to release restrictions and restore smooth gliding of the soft tissues.
Together, these therapies help stabilise the knee, eliminate pain at its root cause, and support long-term recovery-without surgery.
Why Steroid Injections Make Knee Arthritis Worse Over Time
Steroid injections are the most commonly offered treatment for knee osteoarthritis – and while they can provide meaningful short term relief they carry a critical long term problem that many patients are never told about.
Published research – including studies in JAMA – has demonstrated that repeated corticosteroid injections into arthritic knee joints accelerate cartilage breakdown over time.
The very treatment most commonly offered for knee arthritis is actively worsening the underlying degeneration with each repeat injection, which is why the relief becomes shorter and shorter with each subsequent injection. Prolozone and Prolotherapy work in the complete opposite direction – stimulating the body’s own repair and regenerative process rather than suppressing the inflammation that is driving it.
What Bone on Bone Actually Means - And What We Can Realistically Offer
Bone on bone osteoarthritis means the cartilage cushioning the joint has worn down to the point where the bone surfaces are in contact with each other. This is one of the most common presentations we see at Proback and one that patients are frequently told leaves them with no option other than knee replacement surgery.
We want to be honest with you: we cannot regenerate cartilage that has been completely and permanently lost. Nobody can.
What we can do is create a significantly better joint environment – and for many patients this makes a very meaningful difference to pain and function even where significant cartilage loss has occurred.
Here is what that means in practice: Prolozone reduces chronic joint inflammation, improves oxygenation and circulation within the joint space and stimulates the body’s own regenerative process in the remaining cartilage and surrounding tissue.
This creates a much better joint environment – reducing pain, improving function and in many cases allowing patients to delay or avoid knee replacement surgery entirely.
Prolotherapy strengthens the surrounding ligaments and soft tissue that are under enormous abnormal stress as a result of the cartilage loss – reducing the instability and abnormal loading patterns that are accelerating further degeneration.
Many of our bone on bone patients come to us having been told knee replacement is their only option and have achieved meaningful and lasting pain relief and functional improvement through our regenerative approach – often for years without needing surgery.
How Many Sessions Are Typically Needed?
For knee osteoarthritis most patients require between four and eight sessions for the best and most lasting results, spaced two to four weeks apart.
Many notice meaningful improvement before completing the full course.
For bone on bone presentations a longer initial course is sometimes recommended followed by periodic maintenance sessions to sustain the results.
Unlike steroid injections which wear off and need repeating every few months, the regenerative improvements we stimulate are cumulative and typically last significantly longer.
