Hydro-Release & Hydrodissection at Proback Advanced Back Care

Cutting-edge, minimally invasive treatments for chronic pain caused by scar tissue, fascial tightness, and nerve entrapment.

Atย Proback Advanced Back Care, we specialise in innovative, evidence-informed treatments that provide lasting relief from pain that traditional therapies often struggle to resolve. Hydro-release and hydrodissection are advanced ultrasound-guided procedures that target problematic fascial tissue and entrapped nerves – helping restore comfort, mobility, and function.

What Is Hydro-Release?

Hydro-release is designed to treat areas where scar tissue or thickened fascia restricts movement and irritates nearby nerves. These issues commonly occur around major tendons and muscle groups, including the shoulder, hip, knee, elbow, and lower back.

A common trouble area is the fascia above the sacroiliac (SI) joint. Because this region is deep and difficult to reach with conventional soft-tissue techniques, hydro-release offers a safe and highly targeted solution.

How It Works

Under high-resolution ultrasound guidance, a small volume of fluid – usually 5% glucose – is injected into the affected area. This gently separates and releases tight fascial layers, reducing pressure on irritated nerves and restoring normal tissue glide. Patients often experience improved mobility and a significant reduction in pain.

What Is Hydrodissection?

Hydrodissection is a specialised procedure used when a nerve becomes compressed or trapped within surrounding fascia. Instead of turning to surgery, many patients benefit from this minimally invasive approach performed at Proback.

One of the most common areas we treat involves theย dorsal scapular nerve, which can cause persistent pain between the shoulder blades and upper back. This nerve may become entrapped between the fascia of the trapezius and rhomboid muscles. Hydrodissection helps free the nerve, relieve pressure, and reduce pain. Because this region involves a large fascial plane, several sessions may be recommended for optimal outcomes.

Why Choose Proback for These Procedures?

    FAQs

    These procedures are effective for:

    • Chronic fascial pain
    • Entrapped or irritated nerves
    • Movement restrictions due to scar tissue
    • Shoulder blade pain (often linked to dorsal scapular nerve entrapment)
    • Lower back and SI jointโ€“related fascial tension
    • Pain unresponsive to massage, physiotherapy, or manual therapy

Most patients experience only mild discomfort. The use of ultrasound guidance ensures precision, and the injected fluid itself often provides immediate soothing relief.

A typical treatment session takes 15โ€“30 minutes, depending on the area being treated.

It varies by condition. Some patients feel relief after a single session, while othersโ€”especially those requiring treatment of large fascial planesโ€”may benefit from 2โ€“4 sessions.

Recovery is generally quick. Most patients return to normal activities the same day, although we recommend avoiding strenuous exercise for 24โ€“48 hours.

Yes. Hydro-release and hydrodissection are considered very safe when performed by trained clinicians. The use of ultrasound guidance significantly reduces risk and improves accuracy.

We typically use 5% glucose water, a safe, well-tolerated solution that helps separate fascial layers and reduce nerve irritation.

Many patients experience long-lasting improvement, particularly when the treatment is paired with guided rehabilitation or corrective exercises recommended by our clinicians.

      What Our Patients Say

Helping Patients Become Pain-Free Since 2007

      Trustpilot 5 Stars

"I first visited Proback back in 2019 and had great results, but my care was unfortunately interrupted by Covid. Over the next few years, I tried more local providers, but I never achieved the same level of progress or diagnostic clarity, so I always came back to the team I trusted at Proback. However, for the last three months, I have been dealing with a new, debilitating flare-up of my lower back pain that has been far more stubborn than anything before. It got to the point where I could not even sit for more than 10 minutes without significant pain and was relying on a daily combination of ibuprofen and paracetamol just to get through basic tasks. The pain was so severe that it significantly impacted a holiday I had already booked. I came to Proback with this constant, burning nerve impingement on my right side. For most patients and even myself in the past, their excellent "tried and tested" methods like shockwave therapy and spinal decompression have been enough. This time, my progress was incredibly slow. We even tried Prolotherapy, and while I could feel it was beginning to strengthen my back, it ultimately couldn't solve the core problem. The "rebuilding" process couldn't be successful while the nerve impingement had not been completely eradicated. This is where everything changed and why I am writing this review. Instead of giving up, my case was escalated to the founder, Dr. Chris Allard, who originally treated me back in 2019. He performed a deep physical assessment and, crucially, used a diagnostic ultrasound to get a real-time look at my back. This was the absolute game-changer. He discovered that the root cause was "huge amounts" of deep, chronic scar tissue that was physically trapping the nerve. Because nothing else was working for my stubborn case, Dr. Chris used his expertise to bring in a procedure I had never heard of, as they don't advertise it: Ultrasound-Guided Hydrodissection. He explained that this was like a "mini-surgery" without the cutting, using an anaesthetic to numb the area and then injections of fluid to precisely break down and separate the scar tissue in a way that the shockwave therapy just couldn't break through. The impact has been huge. While we haven't reached the end goal yet and more sessions will be needed to completely free the nerve, the hydrodissection has been far more effective than any of the other treatments this time around and I wanted to share my experience. Most people probably are not aware of the procedure and how successful it can be. It has begun to dismantle the core problem that was holding me back. What sets Proback apart is not just their standard tools, but their ability to escalate when necessary. They don't give up. When a case is complex like mine, they bring in their top expert, use advanced diagnostics to find the real root cause and innovate using a highly specific, cutting-edge treatment to fix it. This process has given me genuine, tangible hope for the first time in a long time and I hope my nerve pain will continue to improve to the point I am completely free of it. My deepest thanks to Dr. Chris and the entire team for their persistence, their honesty and for having the advanced skills needed to tackle the most difficult cases."
